Wedding Party Tips


Your wedding party is a major factor in the success of your wedding day. Too many couples assume that once they've selected their brides maids and grooms men that they are finished. Unfortunately, too many people today don't know what it means to be in a wedding party. Bridesmaids and groomsmen need to do more than just look pretty. Put these people to work! If your wedding party knows the who's, what's, when's, and why's, they will be able to handle many of the details that may derail the enjoyment of what should be your happiest day. Here is a litte crash course for on the responsibilites of each member of your wedding party.

  • For The Maid Of Honor:
    Some duties may include, but are not necessarily limited to:
    • Purchase your bridesmaid's dress
    • Throw the Bride a shower
    • Plan a Bachelorette Party
    • Be aware of the day's schedule to inform the rest of the Bridal Party if they are unaware
    • Making sure the Bride's train lays correctly while she is standing at the altar
    • Holding the wedding ring for the Bride during the ceremony
    • Holding the Bride's flowers while she says her vows
    • Bustling the Bride's train for the reception
    • Make a toast to the Bride and Groom at the reception
    • Dance with Best Man during Bridal Party Dance
    • Help the Bride to make the wedding day HER day (as this is one of the few times in her life she will experience this much attention)
    • Be there to support the Bride during the engagement and wedding planning
    • Support the Bride and Groom and their marriage in the years to come
  • For The Best Man:
    Some duties may include, but are not necessarily limited to:
    • Rent a tuxedo for the wedding
    • Plan a Bachelor Party
    • Be aware of the day's schedule to inform the rest of the Bridal Party if they are unaware
    • Holding the wedding ring for the Groom during the ceremony
    • Smile and be attentive during pictures
    • Make a toast to the Bride and Groom at the reception
    • Dance with Maid of Honor during Bridal Party Dance
    • Bride may sit on your knee at reception while Groom takes off garter
    • Coordinate the transportation of the gifts from the wedding to their destination
    • Be there to support the Groom during the engagement and on the wedding day
    • Support the Bride and Groom and their marriage in the years to come
  • For The Bridesmaids:
    Some duties may include, but are not necessarily limited to:
    • Purchase your bridesmaid's dress
    • Attend or help throw shower given by Maid of Honor
    • Attend and contribute to the Bachelorette Party
    • Walking down the aisle during the ceremony
    • Be aware of the wedding day schedule
    • May make a toast to the Bride and Groom at the reception if you desire
    • Dance during the Bridal Party Dance
    • Be there to support the Bride during the engagement and on the wedding day
    • Support the Bride and Groom and their marriage in the years to come
  • For The Groomsmen:
    Some duties may include, but are not necessarily limited to:
    • Rent a tuxedo for the wedding
    • Attend and contribute to the Bachelor Party
    • Be aware of the wedding day schedule
    • Smile and be attentive during pictures
    • May make a toast to the Bride and Groom at the reception if you desire
    • Dance during Bridal Party Dance
    • Be there to support the Groom during the engagement and on the wedding day
    • Support the Bride and Groom and their marriage in the years to come
  • For The Ushers:
    Some duties may include, but are not necessarily limited to:
    • Rent a tuxedo for the wedding
    • Seat guests at the wedding
    • Hand out wedding programs
    • Light candles (except for the unity candle)
    • Roll out the aisle runner
    • Smile and be attentive during pictures
    • May have to dance during the Bridal Party Dance
    • Be there to support the Groom during the engagement and on the wedding day
    • Support the Bride and Groom and their marriage in the years to come
