How To Create A Wedding Webpage
Creating a wedding webpage on FM Brides is super simple! Here's a step by
step guide to get you well on your way to creating your own wedding webpage. If
your an advanced user or have a specific question, go to our FAQ to learn more.
The first step is to find the Wedding Webpage menu on the left side of the screen
and click "Create a New Page". On the page that appears, you will be
asked to agree to the terms and conditions of creating your wedding webpage.
After you click "I Agree to these terms", you will be taken to a page that
asks for information about you, your soon-to-be spouse, and your wedding plans.
Please remember your Account Login and Password. You will need them to create and
edit your wedding webpage! Also, keep them private. Anyone who has your Account
Login and Password can edit your webpage.
This information is kept private unless you choose to share it with someone. We
will never give out your personal information to anyone without your explicit consent.
 After
you have registered for an account, you will be taken back to the Wedding
Webpage Directory Index. Now you need to click the Existing Users Login
link. This will take you to the login page where you will be asked for the
username and password you just created.
Now that you are logged in, you'll notice that the menu has changed. Click Create a New
Page one more time, and you'll be taken to the page where you can create your Wedding webpage.

The first field, Title, is quite important. It will be the main heading for your page,
part of the web address people type in to get to your page, and the title of the page
in the Wedding Webpage Directory Index. Choose something uniquely you. The Bride's and
Groom's names are good choices. For example, it will be easy for people to find
"Tim and Tammy's Wedding Webpage if the title of the page is "Tim and Tammy's
Wedding Site". On the other hand, "Our Wedding" would not be a good choice
because people looking for your page in the Directory Index will have no idea who's
wedding it is.
The next option is Template. There are hundreds of templates
to choose from, and more are being added all the time. As you select a
template from the drop down menu, a thumb nailed preview of that template
will appear. Clicking on the thumbnail will open a new window with a full
size preview of that template. If you decide you don't like your template or
you get bored with it, you may change it by editing your page (more on that
later).
Now that you've selected your template,
you must enter Your Wedding Webpage Details. This is the area where
you write down everything you want people to know about you, your wedding,
your fiancée, your dog, where the wedding is, where you're registered for
gifts, etc. Anything you write in this box will appear on your wedding site.
The last item on this page asks for the First Letter of the Groom's Last Name.
This is for organizational purposes. If you remember, the Wedding Webpage
Directory Index listed all the letters of the alphabet, and the letter you
select here sets the category your page will be found in.
When you're all done, click the Continue button at the bottom of the form.
Your screen will refresh, and the submission form will reappear with two
links at the top. The first is the direct link to your wedding webpage. This
link can be emailed to friends and family or posted on other websites so
that people can easily find your page. The other link points to this
submission form again so you can easily find and edit your page in the
future if you need to make changes. It is probably a good idea to bookmark
them or write them down so you don't forget them!
- I've only typed a few words and inserted a couple of pictures on my wedding webpage, but the Limit field
says that I've used several hundred characters already. Why?
- The Details field is a What You See Is What You Get (WYSIWYG) editor, meaning that it only displays items
that will be seen on the final page. It does not show the underlying code used to make that information appear.
For example, even though an image technically doesn't use any characters,
the HTML code to make a picture appear looks something like this: <img src="http://www.gfxhost.com/some/picture.jpg
/>. As you can see, that is 51 characters of text including spaces, so even though you don't seem to have
typed anything, data was added.
-
- How do I include pictures on my wedding webpage?
Like eBay, FM Brides only allows users to post photos and images which are remotely hosted. This means
you must use an image hosting service like GFXhost.com.
You simply upload your images to your image host, and then link to them when submitting your wedding webpage. Look
for this icon on the Details editor:
In the popup window that appears, simply type the URL provided by the image hosting company for
the particular pictures you wish to display on your page. You should specify a title for the picture
which will appear if some hovers over the image with their pointer or has pictures turned off in their
web browser. You can further specify the alignment of the image, its exact dimensions, border thickness,
and how much white pace you would like around it so words don't run right up against it.
-
- Can I have a forum or blog on my wedding webpage so guests can communicate plans more easily?
- I love the idea of having a wedding webpage, but I'd prefer not to have Google Ads on my page.
- That is certainly an option! It's just not an option we are able to accommodate through FM Brides.
We recommend 1&1 Internet
for hosting your very own wedding website. For as little as $3.99 a month, you can get your very own domain
name and a full featured web hosting account that will let you have multiple pages, host your own pictures,
install a blog or forum, and many other useful things.
-
- Can I use my own template?
- Certainly! To use your own template or to code your own page, simply choose the blank template option
on the submission form and use the WYSIWYG editor to create your page. If you know a bit of HTML, you
cab click the HTML button on the editor to see the underlying HTML code. Please remember that your images
must be hosted somewhere before they can be used for creating your wedding page on FM Brides. It is also
important to note that HTML used for creating your own template will count against the 50,000
characters
you are allowed to enter into the details field.
-
- I don't know HTML, but I'd like to learn so I can create my own custom page. Can you recommend some good tutorials?
- Definitely. The World Wide Web Consortium maintains a website for just that purpose. It is http://www.w3schools.com.
-
- I'm a (disc jockey/caterer/florist/etc.), can I make a wedding webpage to show case my business?
- Yes and no. We do offer advertising options for wedding vendors which will include your business in
the vendor directory (on the right hand side of this page). Free wedding web pages are only for brides
and grooms.
